a shoe cabinet
my wife (ari) and i collaborated on the design of a cabinet to hold shoes. once the design was more or less set, i headed out to the shop to get down to it. the pictures here show a few aspects of the process: ari built a sketch-up model so we could get an idea of what it could look like. i don’t usually do this (i’m a luddite hobbyist!), but it was really helpful. some of the other pictures show a little bit of the “in process” build photos (including finger joints for the drawers and the joinery used in the cabinet itself). we both like vibrant color, so we knew we wanted the drawer faces to stand out. a couple of the photos show small mock-ups of shapes and colors that might be used. the final drawer faces were painted with spray paint. the whole piece is covered in wipe-on polyurethane. our friend forrest did an amazing job building the square steel tubing base. our cat LT modeled with the cabinet.
