shoe cabinet 20.1
heading into the pandemic, my wife (ari) and i had been talking about building a cabinet to hold shoes. it ended up being a great distraction (not only from the pandemic, but also the water damage we had in our house that took the better part of 2020 to fix). the pictures here show a few aspects of the process: ari built a sketch-up model so we could get an idea of what it could look like. i don’t usually do this (i’m a hobbyist!), but it was really helpful. some of the other pictures show a little bit of the “in process” build photos (including finger joints for the drawers and the joinery used in the cabinet itself). we both like vibrant color, so we knew we wanted the drawer faces to stand out. a couple of the photos show small mock-ups of shapes and colors that might be used. the final drawer faces were painted with spray paint. the whole piece is covered in wipe-on polyurethane (which took a long time). our friend forrest did an amazing job building the square steel tubing base. our cat LT modeled with the cabinet.
